Prayer to Our Lady of Good Counsel
God of heavenly wisdom You have given us Mary, Mother of Jesus, to be our guide and counselor.
Grant that we may always seek her motherly help in this life and so enjoy her blessed presence in the life to come.
O Mother of Good Counsel, Patroness of the National Council of Catholic Women, intercede for us, that we may be wise, courageous and loving leaders of the Church.
Help us, dear mother, to know the mind of Jesus, your son.
May the Holy Spirit fill us with reverence for God’s creation, and compassion for all God’s Children.
May our labors of love on earth enhance the reign of God and may God’s gifts of faith and living hope prepare us for the fullness of the world to come.

Emmaus Prayer for Priests
Lord Jesus, hear our prayer for the spiritual renewal of priests. We praise You for giving their ministry to the Church. In these days renew them with the Gifts of Your Spirit. You once opened the Scriptures to the disciples on the road to Emmaus. Now renew Your ordained ministers with the truth and power of Your Word. In the Eucharist, You gave the Emmaus disciples renewed life and hope. Nourish our priests with Your own Body and Blood. Help them to imitate in their lives the death and resurrection they celebrate at Your altar. Give priests enthusiasm for the Gospel, zeal for the salvation of mankind, courage in leadership, humility in service, fraternity with one another and with all their brothers and sisters in You. For You love them, Lord Jesus. And we love and pray for them in Your Name. Amen.
Spiritual Moms
A Spiritual Mom is any woman who commits to praying for seminarians during their time at The Institute for Priestly Formation’s Summer Program for Diocesan Seminarians. We ask that Spiritual Moms pray one “Hail Mary’“ each day, throughout the nine week program either for her assigned seminarian or once for each of the seminarian participants.

Penny and a Prayer
The OACCW began “The Penny and a Prayer for Vocations Project” during the presidential term of Mrs. Greg Hahn in 1964. The goal was to establish a fund to honor Archbishop Bergan’s 50th Anniversary.
Council women are asked to offer a prayer a day for vocations and to include a donation of a penny a week. The yearly contributions are collected by the OACCW treasurer and then presented in the form of a check to the Archbishop at the OACCW Annual Convention in September.
We have found that although a penny a week DOES make a difference, it doesn’t keep up with inflation. We ask women to contribute more than the 52 cents. Each year the fund has grown and the Seminarian Endowment Fund has benefited. A prayer a day by each woman amounts to millions of prayers from this Archdiocese alone.
The funds are collected in various ways depending on the parish. Many hold special events, such as coffee & rolls, dinners, or collecting money at each regular parish meeting by donations of loose change. Others have had their Religious Formation students collect coins in a jar and have donated this money. At our OACCW Board Meetings, we have had contributions come from offertory collections, split the pot, selling of donated arts & crafts projects, and collecting spare change.
The women of the OACCW stand behind our seminarians and our current and past priests. With that commitment in mind, we have rededicated ourselves each year to the Penny and a Prayer for Vocations Project. To date the women have donated over $275,000.00 to the Vocation’s Office!
